Critical Analysis

Crit went as expected really, with feedback stating that the "moon" still looked to harsh against the skyline, and it didn't really have any defining characteristics that allowed it to stand out by itself in an image filled with so many other features.

As my proposal was that of including myself in many different areas of the piece as a reworked character, on the projector, it was not immediately obvious there is a character there; which for me was the intended point. This will only become obvious when printed, and even then, it will be a slight challenge to find the main focal point of the piece.

That said, upon crit commenting specifically upon the planet and its interaction with the rest of the image, i took to working in something that i thought would be in keeping with the rest of the image whilst allowing it to stand out. My intention was to create something bold, something daring and something unique. With this, i decided to add some kind of storm to the planet, therefore defining that it has an atmosphere wherein a storm could actually happen, and give it the focus it so deserves. Knowing roughly how i wanted it to look, i used some stock images of an oil spill in the ocean to create some custom brushes i would use to create this fiery storm effect.

Adding some linear dodge oranges to the piece, covering it by a cloud layer (as suggested in crit) the planet began to take shape. After a few refinements of the spires;

Castle entrance where the character would be situated;

The fort to the right;

The creepy looking castle to the back;

The lights upon the distant mountains;

The light work on the near by monuments;

And the planet itself, i believe i am finally ready to submit this image as my final piece.

For the submission, and with all these pieces put together the final product looks like this;

All that is needed now is to print the piece to A1 with the colour profiling to match, and to put it on the WeTransfer page to see how it will look.

Overall, i am very pleased with how this has come out. It has not only shown me that i can produce some great artwork with time and effort, but also that i can change a project to fit the time constraints; my original intention was to use Cinema 4D to create this landscape and have a panned through video to add to my submission, but i think the fact that i have had to alter my project only allows me to further my method in the future. The next project being the Personal Project, i feel i could fully utilise my time making up for the things i didn't get to do in this project.
