Similar Events

After looking into more of the tedious parts of the creation process, i think it will be very important, not just to look at similar sites that shall inspire mine, but other events in my genre.
Although i have previously looked at sites such as OFFF and Nobrow, these sites are for entire digital design conferences, not a singular specialised event such as the one i'm proposing. Upon looking around for concept designer events, it turns out that googling the term comes up with no results whatsoever, i cannot say whether this is due to poor SEO or due to the real lack of events such as this. The only event i could find that i could regard as a similar event to the one i am proposing came under a search for digital painting, and although this is not very far from the event i am proposing, or indeed far from the artwork i am looking at showing, it is the only one i have managed to find, and although it may make my influence a little sparse in terms of reference sites, i feel it may actually benefit me in regard to staying away from previously used ideas.

Although this site is in all honesty not built very well, it does still hold many key features seen throughout the other sites i've analysed already, such as the static navigation that relates well to the branding and/or content, and the 3 column lay out. In this case these features aren't really been used all two well. The fact that they reflect all my observations of other sites really does reflect the importance of these key things.

Although, again the layout of this site itself is awful, it resonates with the things i've already stated. Personally the design choices made for this site could have been much better, for instance the abundance of text over graphics makes the whole thing overly complex to look at and really detracts from what the event actually is. The fact that this is Pixar should make a huge statement, instead it's saddled with a slot in the middle with pretty much the same amount of text space as graphic. Anyone that would be interested in Pixar would recognise the character as Rex from Toy Story, thus prompting them to slick on the picture, but instead, with this layout it makes the whole thing seem like hard work.

The side by side graphic and text works here, but it really should not be as much text as is there. Again it makes for very hard work to both look and enjoy the site, if all these pictures became links, or perhaps even textual links like those found on the OFFF site, this whole thong may be a bit more fluid; yes, creating more pages in the process, but in all honesty with the amount of information displayed here it really could be put onto its own page with perhaps a little more in depth explanations of what it is, or what could be going on.

Displayed above is the secondary events, such as workshops and general talks, but as has already been made very clear on this site; a little text just isn't enough. Changing to a 4 column view to really drive home the fact that there really isn't enough space on the internet, more text and less pictures have been introduced. It really does make for a very messy site. This could all easily be cleared up with a simple heading just sitting at the bottom left of the picture, with a through link to it's own well laid out separate page. Again, OFFF got it right with this one pictured below;

This is very simple, using the graphics as the main focal point, not drawing too much away with mundane text.

I think for my own site my focus must be on the graphics, at least for the home page. That way all the information can be well laid out on it's own separate page, allowing users to really see what they want to see instead of being force fed things that end up crowding the site, and really make the user experience less welcoming, and the interface a lot let user friendly.
